IUB named top private university in Bangladesh in Nature Index rankings
Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) has been ranked the top private university in Bangladesh in the latest Nature Index institutional rankings.
The university ranked fifth overall among Bangladeshi institutions and third among universities nationwide. IUB also secured the top position in Bangladesh in the Physical Sciences category.
The rankings are based on research published between 1 February 2025 and 31 January 2026. IUB recorded a Nature Index Share of 0.63 from four indexed research articles.
Two of the indexed articles were authored by Dr Jewel Kumar Ghosh, assistant professor in the Department of Physical Sciences and director of the Computational Physics Wing at IUB’s Center for Computational and Data Sciences (CCDS). The papers, titled Scale without conformal symmetry in hydrodynamics and Hydrostatic equilibrium in multi-Weyl semimetals, were published in the European Physical Journal C and the Journal of High Energy Physics respectively.
Another indexed article, An accurate measurement of the spectral resolution of the JWST Near Infrared Spectrograph, was authored by Dr Anowar J. Shajib, associate member of IUB’s Center for Astronomy, Space Science and Astrophysics (CASSA). The paper was published in Astronomy & Astrophysics.
The Nature Index tracks research output published in leading international journals in the natural and health sciences. Institutions are ranked primarily on the basis of “Share”, which measures the contribution of affiliated authors.
IUB Vice Chancellor Prof M. Tamim said the recognition reflected the university’s growing scientific research environment and international collaboration.
Pro Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Daniel W. Lund said the ranking highlighted the increasing global visibility and quality of research produced by IUB faculty members and researchers.
The four institutions ranked ahead of IUB in Bangladesh are ICDDR,B, the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), and Child Health Research Foundation (CHRF).
