Jalalabad Cantonment English School & College (JCESC) has partnered with the British Council to introduce standardised English assessments for its primary and secondary students.

Under the agreement signed today, the institution will introduce the British Council’s Primary English Test and Secondary English Test to benchmark students’ English-language proficiency.

The agreement was signed at the JCESC campus in Sylhet in the presence of British Council representatives, the institution’s principal and vice-principal, faculty members, guardians and students from classes III to XII.

The partnership also designates JCESC as an official IELTS registration centre, enabling students, teachers and guardians to register for the examination through the institution.

Zunayed Ahmed, Managing Director and Head of Market-Bangladesh at the British Council, described the collaboration as the first of its kind.

“Our partnership with Jalalabad Cantonment English School & College brings benchmarked English assessments directly to primary and secondary students,” he said.

“By fostering strong language proficiency from an early age, we are paving the way for the next generation of global citizens. We thank the JCESC leadership team for being a pioneer in this journey,” he added.

Lieutenant Colonel Dr Md Arifur Rahman, psc, AEC, Principal of JCESC, thanked the British Council for selecting the institution as a partner.

“We value this collaboration and are committed to making it successful through dedication and continuous effort. I am confident that the partnership will strengthen English education at our institution and inspire students to become confident global citizens,” he said.

Anika Bushra, Account Relationship Manager at British Council Bangladesh, delivered a presentation during the ceremony.

A question-and-answer session subsequently allowed students and guardians to engage directly with the British Council team and learn about the long-term academic benefits of the assessments.

The partnership aims to strengthen English-language education at JCESC and expand opportunities for students in higher education and international engagement.
