The Department of Mass Communication and Journalism (MCJ) at Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) concluded MCJ Carnival 2026 on 28 September, bringing together emerging filmmakers, media practitioners, photographers, storytellers and creative enthusiasts from across Bangladesh.

Held on 27–28 September, the carnival featured three major events organised by BUP Media & Communication Club (BUP MCC), BUP Film Club (BUP FC) and BUP Photography Society (BUPPS).

The carnival was inaugurated in the presence of Brigadier General Mohammad Aksar Khan, ndc, psc, PhD, Dean of the Faculty of Security and Strategic Studies, BUP, and Lieutenant Colonel Mahmud Hasan Tariq, PPM, PPMS, psc, Chairman of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, BUP.

Addressing the gathering, Lieutenant Colonel Mahmud Hasan Tariq welcomed participants, saying, “Let our stories shine as bright as the Sun and let the festivities begin.” The opening session also featured remarks from club moderators and student leaders from the three organisations.

MediaComm Summit 2.0

Organised by BUP Media & Communication Club, MediaComm Summit 2.0 explored the changing media landscape through discussions with Jannatul Ferdous Oishee, Miss World Bangladesh 2018, actress and model, Shurovy Yeasmin, solo traveller and content creator; and Mamunur Rashid, political podcaster at Speak with Rashid.

BUP Film Fest 2026

BUP Film Fest 2026, organised by BUP Film Club, featured more than 40 short films, 20 documentaries, 50 ad-making projects and 25 scripts, alongside 30 Cosplay performers and 110 Cine Quiz participants.

The first day featured a visual storytelling seminar, a screening of the club’s in-house production “Boithok”, screenings of the top 15 short films, top 10 documentaries and top 18 advertisements, as well as the Cine Quiz and Cosplay showcase.

The second day featured a screenwriting masterclass by screenwriter Samiul Bhuiyan, followed by remarks from BUP Film Club Moderator Ibrahim Azad and an address by the Dean at the Shadhinota Auditorium. The winning Short Film and Ad Making entries were screened before the closing and award ceremony.

“Of the Record” won the Short Film segment, while “Silent Verdict” won Documentary and Mershad Karim’s “Way Back Home” won Script Writing. Maisha Mustari Maliha won the Cine Quiz, Akira won Cosplay and “Muhurto Rekha” won Ad Making. Winners and other recognised participants received prize money, crests and certificates.

Sfuron 6.0

The sixth edition of Sfuron, organised by BUP Photography Society, featured selected works from more than 2,000 submissions across Bangladesh. The two-day exhibition showcased photography, art and cartoons, alongside a workshop on narrative photography and visual documentation.

Supported by OPPO, Bangladesh Machine Tools Factory (BMTF) and Foodie, MCJ Carnival 2026 brought together different forms of media and visual storytelling, giving emerging creatives a platform to learn, compete and showcase their work.
