A national conference bringing together 175 secondary school science teachers from all 64 districts has focused on innovative teaching methods, classroom technology and professional development.

The National School Science Teachers Conference 2026 was held at the International Conference Hall of Daffodil International University in Daffodil Smart City, Savar, according to a press release.

Bangladesh Freedom Foundation and Daffodil International Professional Training Institute jointly organised the day-long conference in association with the Human Resources Development Institute and Daffodil International University.

The conference covered inquiry-based learning, critical thinking, innovative teaching methods, classroom technology, artificial intelligence and learner-centred science education.

Dr Md Sabur Khan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Daffodil International University and Chairman of Daffodil Family, delivered the keynote address titled “Transformative Teaching for Future-Ready Science Education”.

He said the future of education depended on engaging students through creativity, innovation and experiential learning rather than relying solely on conventional teaching methods.

Highlighting the growing role of technology and artificial intelligence in education, he encouraged teachers to act as facilitators who inspire students to explore, question, innovate and solve real-world problems.

Professor Dr Khan Moinuddin Al Mahmud Sohel, Director General of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education, attended the conference as chief guest.

Stephen Forbes, Country Director of the British Council Bangladesh, was present as special guest.

Professor Dr Khan Moinuddin Al Mahmud Sohel urged teachers to move beyond conventional classroom practices and equip students with the knowledge, skills and mindset required for the future.

He said science education should promote curiosity, critical thinking and problem-solving skills among students.

Stephen Forbes welcomed the initiative and praised the organising institutions for their efforts to improve science education in Bangladesh.

Dr Mohammad Nuruzzaman, Group Chief Executive Officer of Daffodil Family; Sazzadur Rahman Chowdhury, Executive Director of Bangladesh Freedom Foundation; and Azizur Rahman, International Adviser of Daffodil International University and Oxfam Bangladesh, also attended.

Dr KM Hasan Ripon, Executive Director of Daffodil International Professional Training Institute, convened the conference.

Certificates and recognition were presented to the participating teachers at the conclusion of the event.

The organisers said the conference marked the beginning of a long-term national professional development initiative for science teachers.

Follow-up learning sessions are scheduled for September and October 2026 to provide teachers with practical strategies, knowledge of emerging technologies and innovative classroom practices.
