Rajshahi University (RU) has launched free Korean language classes and para taekwondo training for students with disabilities, aiming to strengthen their language skills, confidence and self-defence abilities.

A discussion meeting on the initiative was held at the university’s Central Gymnasium on 17 September, organised by the Rajshahi University unit of the Physically-Challenged Development Foundation (PDF).

Md Kamruzzaman Chanchal, senior deputy director of the Department of Physical Education and coach of the RU Taekwondo team, attended the meeting along with Korean language professors EO Jiyoun and Professor Im Bong Taek.

Professor Im Bong Taek said 21 students had already registered for the programmes. “Physical disabilities or language barriers cannot stop their eagerness to learn,” he said.

PDF President Md Azhar said the initiative would create new opportunities for students with disabilities to develop their skills and compete at national and international levels.

Md Kawsar Ali, volunteer management secretary of PDF, said para taekwondo could help students build confidence and showcase their talents.

Following the meeting, the students visited the RU Taekwondo Club’s training room. Around 30 students with disabilities attended the event, along with PDF officials and club members.
