RU students bring 20-minute film ‘3 Idiots’ to audience
A group of students from the 2021–22 session of the Philosophy Department at Rajshahi University (RU) have produced a 20-minute film titled ‘3 Idiots’.
Presented by AdmissionArena, the film premiered on the university campus on 19 September, drawing more than 1,500 viewers across multiple screenings.
The team initially scheduled eight screenings between 3:10pm and 7pm, with each screening running for 20 minutes. All eight shows were housefull, prompting the team to arrange an additional screening to accommodate more viewers.
The idea for the film was conceived by the group around one and a half years ago. Although they initially planned to produce it together, the project was put on hold due to time and budget constraints.
Earlier this year, the friends decided to revive the project. They covered the initial production costs themselves, while more members joined the team as production progressed.
Yuvraj Roy directed the film, with Moniruzzaman Rafi and Digonto Roy handling cinematography. Nawshad Hasan Prince was responsible for promotion and social media.
Partha, Yakub, Atik, Sakib, Plabon, Orko, Nahin, Yusuf, Young, Ashraf, Rony, Kanan, Disha, Probha, Ayesha, Arifa, Tanzina, Dibosh and Rajshree, among others, were involved in different aspects of the production.
The team worked around their academic schedules while managing the production on a limited budget and handling several aspects of filmmaking themselves.
“We first thought about making this film about a year and a half ago, but it did not happen because of time and budget constraints. This time, we decided that we would make it happen somehow,” the team said.
After months of planning and production, the project eventually reached its intended audience — turning an idea among a group of friends into a 20-minute film made with their own time, money and effort.
