A student innovation team from Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Sust) has won the Bangladesh national round of the World Sustainability Development Goals (WSDG) Challenge 2026, earning the opportunity to represent the country at the international competition.

Team Sojourou secured first place in the “Environmental Science and Sustainable Development” category. The team comprises Sust students Mohammad Siam, Md Jariful Alam Jarif and Ruhini Nath.

The Bangladesh national round was organised by Robo Tech Valley. The winning teams received recognition and certificates at an award ceremony held on 25 July.

Alongside winning the national round, Team Sojourou was selected to compete in the international phase by presenting a research project focused on environmental sustainability.

The international round is jointly organised by the Malaysia Young Scientists Organisation and Multimedia University under the theme, “My Goal for the Universe: Where Youthful Minds Meet Artificial Intelligence.”

The competition will be held from 24 to 28 September at Tun Chancellor Hall of Multimedia University in Cyberjaya, Malaysia, where participants from different countries will present their research and innovative ideas.

Team member Mohammad Siam said the team’s research examined the relationship between climate-related events and the global financial system to identify solutions to contemporary climate and sustainable development challenges.

He said the project received national recognition for its originality, academic quality and relevance, adding that the team aims to contribute to global climate action and sustainable development through research at the international competition.
