The ULAB Sustainable Development Club (USDC), in collaboration with Hult Prize at ULAB 2026–27, organised “Reel for Real: Project Zero” on 17 August at the ULAB Permanent Campus, aiming to raise awareness about carbon footprints and encourage students to adopt more sustainable practices.

The initiative brought together more than 50 students, who used short-form videos to present their ideas and solutions for reducing carbon emissions and promoting environmentally responsible lifestyles.

Dr Shahana Afrose Chowdhury, associate professor at the Department of Environmental Studies and Sustainability at ULAB, served as the official judge and facilitator of the competition. She also conducted a session on carbon footprints, carbon accounting and carbon trading, highlighting the environmental and economic dimensions of carbon emissions and the importance of responsible climate action.

Faisal Hasan, head of marketing at Kalo Beverage, attended the programme as the special guest, bringing an industry perspective to the student-led sustainability initiative. Kalo Beverage’s 60+ served as the official drink partner of the event.

Following an evaluation of the submissions, Kulsum Ali was named champion, while Md Tanyem Ashraf became the runner-up. Mir Mahdeen Morshed received an honourable mention for his performance in the competition.

The organisers were also recognised for their contributions. Israt Jahan Shafa and Mobashira Islam Fahima received the Best Organizer recognition from AHM Munaimul Azam, vice president of the ULAB Sustainable Development Club. The programme was hosted by Srabonti Zaman.

As part of the event’s sustainability-focused recognition, winners, guests and the Best Organizers were presented with terracotta items and plants, symbolising environmental responsibility and greener living.

Through “Reel for Real: Project Zero”, USDC and Hult Prize at ULAB 2026–27 sought to engage young people in sustainability initiatives and encourage students to contribute to a more carbon-conscious society.
