Chris Hansen buys ads before every screening of A24’s ‘Primetime’
Moviegoers watching A24’s Primetime, starring Robert Pattinson as To Catch a Predator host Chris Hansen, will see the real Hansen before the film begins.
Hansen has bought preshow advertising at every cinema screening the film, directing audiences to TruBlu, his streaming network focused on predator investigations and true crime.
In the advert, Hansen appears in a kitchen and delivers a variation of his famous catchphrase: “I’m going to need everyone in the theatre to take a seat right over there.” He then encourages viewers to join TruBlu, with a QR code leading to the platform, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Primetime, directed by Lance Oppenheim, explores Hansen’s televised predator stings and opens on 25 September following its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival on 5 September.
Hansen has said he declined an invitation to watch the film after being asked to sign an agreement preventing him from taking legal action against A24. Sources say he is now consulting lawyers about his options following its release.
The film is based on Luke Dittrich’s 2007 Esquire article, “Tonight on Dateline, This Man Will Die”, which examined the suicide of Texas district attorney Bill Conradt after he became the target of one of Hansen’s sting operations.
