Tom Holland-starrer Spider-Man: Brand New Day has become the third-highest-grossing film of all time, surpassing the lifetime box-office collections of Titanic and Avatar: The Way of Water.

The Marvel superhero film has grossed around $2.335 billion worldwide in just over five weeks, according to trade estimates.

The film earned $22.5 million in the US and Canada during its fifth weekend, taking its domestic total to $891 million. It has also performed strongly overseas, where it has collected around $1.44 billion, with China, Japan, the UK and India among its major markets.

By the end of Sunday, Brand New Day had reached $2.332 billion globally, leaving it around $1.6 million short of Avatar: The Way of Water. It crossed that mark after adding more than $6 million on Monday.

The film also overtook James Cameron’s Titanic, which has earned about $2.257 billion worldwide.

Brand New Day now trails only Avatar, which has grossed $2.923 billion, and Avengers: Endgame, with $2.797 billion.

At its current pace, however, the Spider-Man film is unlikely to challenge either of the top two films. It remains about $464 million behind Endgame, while the latter is expected to receive another theatrical release ahead of Avengers: Doomsday.

Strong run in North America

The film has remained the top movie in North America for 31 days and now has the second-highest domestic gross of all time at $891 million.

Its domestic haul has already surpassed Avengers: Endgame, which earned $858 million in the US and Canada, and Avatar, which made $749 million.

Only Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which earned $936 million domestically in 2015, remains ahead of it on that list.

Part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Spider-Man: Brand New Day stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker, alongside Zendaya as MJ and Jacob Batalon as Ned.

The film follows Peter as he lives independently as Spider-Man in a world where his former friends no longer remember him. As he struggles with his isolation, new threats emerge.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film also features Sadie Sink, Mark Ruffalo and Jon Bernthal.
