Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal believes he and Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappé are the best players in the world, but says he deserves to win this year’s Ballon d’Or.

Yamal has scored seven goals in six games this season, including a brace in Barcelona’s 4-2 win over Levante. The 19-year-old believes his case is strengthened by helping Barcelona win LaLiga and Spain lift the World Cup, according to ESPN.

“For me, Mbappé and I are the best in the world,” Yamal told Movistar. “I think I deserve it this year because of what I’ve won. Everyone who watches the matches knows it.”

Despite Spain’s World Cup triumph, Yamal admitted he was not satisfied with his own performance after scoring once in eight appearances.

“I wasn’t happy with my own performance,” he said. “I know I could have done more. I did help the team, but I can’t wait for the next World Cup.”

The Ballon d’Or will be awarded in London on 26 October, with Yamal, Mbappé, Harry Kane and Ousmane Dembélé among the leading contenders.
