Professional Masters in International Relations (PMIR) at Dhaka University
Initiated in 2016, the Professional Masters in International Relations (PMIR) programme is an intensive postgraduate course ideal for working professionals and those intending to build illustrious careers across diverse sectors.
Alumni and participants include officers from the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS), armed forces, foreign diplomatic missions, local and international financial institutions, multinational corporations (MNCs), non-governmental organisations (NGOs), security and intelligence agencies, think tanks, and media outlets.
Programme Features & Curriculum
- Duration: 18 months, divided into 3 semesters of 6 months each.
- Class Schedule: Tailored for working executives; all regular sessions are conducted exclusively during the weekends on Fridays and Saturdays (9:30 AM – 12:30 PM and 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM).
- Course Structure: Consists of 12 comprehensive courses focusing on vital cross-cutting global issues. Core taught elements include International Law and Organisations, Foreign Policy of Bangladesh, Global Development, Trade and Governance, International Security, South Asian Affairs, and International Diplomacy.
- Research Module: Includes a compulsory research/dissertation module, allowing students to conduct critical academic assessments and write scholarly papers on contemporary global politics under direct faculty guidance.
Admission Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognised institution with a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.5 out of 4.0, or at least a 2nd Class.
- Holders of a Post-Graduate Diploma in International Relations (PGDIR) are highly encouraged to apply.

Application & Selection Process
Candidates are recommended to apply online via the official admission portal: https://www.duir.ac.bd/pmir. Alternatively, physical application forms can be collected from and submitted directly to the office of the Department in person.
- Application Fee: Tk. 1,900/- (excluding bKash transaction charges), payable securely through the Online Admission System.
- Admission Evaluation Matrix: The final merit list will be published based on a cumulative score out of 105 marks distributed as follows:
- Written Admission Test (100 Marks): Evaluates analytical skills, basic knowledge of international affairs, English language proficiency, and qualitative aptitude.
- Professional Experience (5 Marks): Weightage allocated for proven professional track records.
Tuition & Fees Structure
The total tuition fee for the complete 18-month programme is Tk. 1,65,000 (One Lac and Sixty-Five Thousand Taka only). Students can settle the dues all at once upon enrollment, or through three distinct standard installments:
- 1st Installment (At Enrollment): Tk. 65,000 (Sixty-Five Thousand Taka only)
- 2nd Installment: Tk. 50,000 (Fifty Thousand Taka only) payable before the 2nd semester starts
- 3rd Installment: Tk. 50,000 (Fifty Thousand Taka only) payable before the 3rd semester starts
