Bangladeshi students to participate in Asian Spelling Bee Championship in Shanghai
Emerald International School, Dhaka, secured championship and runner-up positions at the Asian Spelling Bee Competition 2026, with 11 students qualifying to represent Bangladesh at the Asian Spelling Bee Championship in Shanghai, China, in July.
The competition was held on 23 May 2026 and organised by Edupro Concepts Bangladesh Limited in collaboration with Spelling Bee of China.
The competition selects top participants for intercontinental and international challenges in countries including the United States, Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom.
A total of 20 students from Grades 3 to 8 represented Emerald International School at the competition.
The school recorded strong performances across different categories, with students securing top positions in the Grade 3–5 and Grade 6–9 groups.
Shahnan Sabit Nirjhor, a Grade 5 student, won the championship title in the Grade 3–5 category, while Yusuf Md Shafiq, a Grade 3 student, secured the runner-up position in the same category.
Amr Eesaa Bin Mohammad, a Grade 7 student, and Anabia Sahrish Rafah, a Grade 6 student, advanced to the final rounds and finished as runner-up finalists after competitive tie-breaker sessions.
M M Ronok, founder of Emerald International School, said the school has maintained a strong focus on language development from the beginning of students’ academic journey.
“We start and maintain a focus on language when the students enter. It is the ultimate tool to expand their curiosity and learning ability while expressing themselves. We are representing our national potential on an international stage,” he said.
He said the school’s approach begins with play-based learning and gradually develops students’ curiosity through interactive and activity-based learning.
“It starts with play to learn, and then gradually keeping that curiosity alive for the students. We adapt with each grade to make sure that the curriculum is more immersive and that our students are learning through interaction and activities,” Ronok said.
School authorities said the achievement reflects Emerald International School’s continued emphasis on academic rigour, language development and competitive learning.
They said the students’ success also highlights the collective efforts of teachers, mentors and parents in building a strong learning community.
