Zoom has partnered with World, founded by Sam Altman, to verify that meeting participants are real humans not AI deepfakes.

According to TechCrunch, The move responds to a growing threat: in 2024, a Hong Kong employee at Arup was tricked into transferring $25 million during a video call where all other participants were AI-generated. Similar attacks followed, with deepfake fraud losses surpassing $200 million in early 2025 and averaging over $500,000 per incident.

Instead of relying on unreliable video-analysis tools, World’s “World ID Deep Face” system verifies users by matching three elements: a registered image from its Orb device, a live face scan, and the participant’s video feed. When matched, a “Verified Human” badge appears.

Zoom will allow hosts to require verification before joining or even during meetings. The partnership is part of broader efforts by World, which is also working with platforms like Tinder and Visa to confirm real human activity online.
