Planning a trip? Here’s a checklist of things to take on your summer vacation

Summer is just around the corner, and so is the long-awaited vacation that every student looks forward to. During this time, people often go outside the shelter of their homes to exciting and adventurous places.

Maybe you may want to go to Bandarban. When your mum tells you to start packing for a trip, you start to wonder. What should you take along with you?

These are questions that many people around the globe wonder- “Should I pack lightweight, or fit as much as I can into my bag?” Some may question if they should bring that new advanced flashlight they bought while some decide to skip that extra pair of shoes. Trust me, some essentials are needed for an experience to turn from a dull one to a fun one.

Water

The biggest necessity, whether you’re going hiking or camping or just chilling at the beach, is water. No matter where you are, if you don’t have a bottle of water with you in the summer, you are asking for dehydration, and prolonged dehydration leads to heatstroke, which is an experience not even thrill-seekers want to experience.

Often in hilly areas, water isn’t exactly readily available like in Dhaka. Therefore, if you’re going on a trip, always remember: water is your number one priority.

Insect repellents

Insect repellents are another must-have, especially if you are planning to go camping.

Pesky insects like mosquitoes are especially common in summer, and they carry the most horrible diseases mankind has ever to deal with. To name a few, dengue and malaria are on the “most annoying diseases list”, mainly because it causes thousands, maybe tens of thousands of deaths every year. So unless you want to spend your summer stuck to a hospital bed, make sure to carry some insect repellents.

Sunscreen

If you want to go to Cox’s Bazar in the summer season, you should make sure to carry sunscreen around with you at all times.

Why? Well, because too much exposure to the sun causes skin cancer. Oh, but there’s more! Direct exposure may also cause eye problems, which impair vision.

Prolonged exposure can lead to sunburns, which causes pain and swelling. So next time you plan a trip to the beach, sunscreen is a must-have.

Wet Wipes

Ever heard the saying, “Wet wipes are the third most ingenious creation of mankind?” Probably not, because I just made it up.

Anyways, these wet tissues feel amazing on your skin after being in the heat. You can use them to wipe away dirt and clean your skin – a tissue 2.0. They are extremely refreshing and I would highly recommend that everyone should take at least one pouch of wet wipes if they are embarking on a journey.

First-Aid Kit

This is pretty self-explanatory. Anything could go wrong- on a hiking trip you could trip and fall into ditches or off small cliffs, in a camping trip you could be attacked by wild animals, or just generally you could hurt yourself in some way.

Therefore, a first-aid kit is a necessity if you want to go journeying, no matter the time or place.

A first-aid kit should contain adhesive bandages, antiseptic wipes, pain relievers, antibiotic ointments, band-aids, and other fun tools. If you don’t bring a first-aid kit and run into an emergency, you may have to call emergency services which could take an undefined amount of time which could be fatal.

So again, unless you want to be sick and in bedrest for the rest of your summer vacation, add a first-aid kit to your bag of adventures.

Honourable mentions

A portable fan could be a lifesaver on hot days, and if you want to take these around, take some batteries around so you can keep it charged up and running. Personal hygiene items like toothbrushes and deodorants are extremely important too. You should also always carry snacks around in case of an emergency. You should also take tissues with you, and plastic bags to store dirty clothes.

Moisturiser

Did your skin ever feel too dry or irritated after you are exposed to the sun? If yes, then moisturisers are the solution to that problem. Just as their name hints, they are used to moisturise your skin after being exposed to the Sun, to keep it soft and smooth.

So next time you are going on a journey, do yourself a favor and throw a bottle of moisturiser into your pack.

In short, these are some items that are quite useful when you travel during your summer outing. Whether it be a bottle of water, a portable fan or a box of wet wipes, they could be life-changing. So, pack wisely, and don’t forget the little stuff that makes summer that much more enjoyable!
