Parts of the country are currently experiencing a mild heat wave, which is expected to persist for the next two days starting from Wednesday morning, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).

“Moderate heat wave is sweeping over the district of Niphamari and mild heat wave is sweeping over the rest parts of Rangpur division, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna and Sylhet divisions and the districts of Brahmanbaria and Feni and it may abate from some places,” says the BMD.

During the period, day temperature may fall slightly and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country.

The BMD forecast that people will get relief of the heat wave from Saturday as the temperature will decrease somewhat when the monsoon winds become active. 

But, light to moderate rain or thunder showers with temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at a few places over Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at one or two places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna and Barishal divisions with moderately heavy falls at places over Chattogram division over the next 24 hours starting at 9am on Wednesday.

The highest temperature was recorded 38 degrees Celsius in Dimla of Nilphamari in the last 24 hours till 6pm on Tuesday.

The monsoon is less active over Bangladesh and weak to moderate over North Bay.
