Book on higher education edited by Prof Syed Saad Andaleeb unveiled at IUB

A new research volume edited by Professor Dr Syed Saad Andaleeb, titled Reimagining the University: Best Practices for Higher Education in Bangladesh, was unveiled at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) on 26 January 2026.

The event, held at the DMK Lecture Gallery, was jointly organised by the IUB Library and the Bangladesh Society for Private University Academics (BSPUA). The book has been published by University Press Limited (UPL).

Divided into four sections, the volume features contributions from vice-chancellors and senior academics from several universities. The essays explore key issues in higher education, including policy, leadership, sustainable finance, research, PhD programmes, teaching quality, and outcome-based education. The editorial board includes Fahmida N. Chowdhury, Md Mamun Habib, Syed Akhter Hossain, Mohammad Karim, Elora Shehabuddin, and Farid A. Sobhani.

Keynote remarks were delivered by Professor Dr Syed Saad Andaleeb, Distinguished Professor Emeritus at Pennsylvania State University and former Vice-Chancellor of BRAC University. Speakers at the event included vice-chancellors and senior academics from IUB, North South University, Eastern University, and BSPUA, along with Mahrukh Mohiuddin, Managing Director of UPL.

A panel discussion featured vice-chancellors from several private universities, including IUBAT, Daffodil International University, Southeast University, Asia Pacific University, City University, and Green University of Bangladesh.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Professor Dr Daniel W. Lund, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of IUB. Trustees, faculty members, students, and guests from various universities attended the event.
