Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) recently hosted an orientation programme for incoming MSc students of the Climate Change and Development (CCD) and Environment Management (EM) programmes.
Organised by the Department of Environmental Science and Management, the orientation welcomed a cohort of 50 students, including fresh graduates as well as experienced professionals from government and non-government organisations.
The ceremony was graced by Mohammad Navid Saifullah, additional secretary to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, as the chief guest. In his address, he highlighted the importance of strong academic foundations in shaping effective national climate and environmental policies, and encouraged students to apply their academic learning to real-world challenges.
The session was also attended by Professor Hafizur Rahman, head of the Department of Environmental Science and Management; Dr K A Rabbani, dean of the School of Environment and Life Sciences; and Professor Abdul Khaleque of the same department. They shared insights into the programme structure, research opportunities, and career pathways in the fields of climate change and environmental sustainability.
The orientation concluded with an interactive discussion, during which students expressed enthusiasm about their academic journey ahead. Many noted their confidence in the curriculum and described the programmes as an important bridge towards future leadership roles in climate action, environmental management, and sustainable development.
