Tsutomu Shibayama, best known for his work on Doraemon, has died at the age of 84 due to lung cancer.

His passing was announced by the animation studio Ajia-do Animation Works, which confirmed that Shibayama died on March 6, 2026. The studio also noted his former role as its president and CEO.
Shibayama served as chief director of the Doraemon TV series and directed its feature films for more than two decades. Throughout his career, he also contributed to several other notable anime projects, helping shape the industry with his long-standing influence.
