The Bangladesh University Grants Commission (UGC) has decided to issue directives to ensure free Wi-Fi facilities at all public and private universities across the country within the next 60 working days.
The decision was taken at a meeting held at the UGC office today (25 March).
Officials said the relevant directives will be sent to universities shortly.
In the initial phase, free Wi-Fi will be introduced in libraries, common rooms and cafeterias. The facility will later be expanded to residential halls and other education and research-related infrastructure.
The Bangladesh Research and Education Network (BdREN) will provide technical support for the implementation process.
The meeting was chaired by UGC Chairman Mamun Ahmed and attended by commission members, ICT Division representatives and relevant project officials.
The initiative aims to strengthen student-friendly digital infrastructure, promote the use of technology in education and research, and reduce the digital divide.
