Barishal is set to host the inaugural ‘Green Runners Barishal 2026’ on 8 May, the first event of its kind in Bangladesh where every participant will receive a tree sapling as part of a drive to promote environmental stewardship through fitness.

The event will take place near the University of Barishal on the Barishal–Bhola highway, themed ‘doubling greenery through fitness’.

The programme is designed to integrate health awareness with environmental protection. Organisers believe running not only promotes physical fitness but can also drive positive social change. Providing a sapling to every participant symbolises a commitment to a greener future.

The event will feature a 2km fun run and 5km and 10km race categories, open to both men and women. Organisers aim to foster a vibrant community atmosphere, encouraging participation by both novice and experienced runners.

Participants will receive a premium event jersey, participation and finisher certificates, a Barishal-themed medal for completing the run within the stipulated time, a kit bag, an official bib number, snacks, hydration support, sponsor gifts, and event souvenirs. Medical support and volunteer assistance will be available throughout.

Registration is now open and will continue until 20 April 2026. As participation slots are limited, organisers urge interested runners to register promptly.

Organisers hope Green Runners Barishal 2026 will serve as a model for combining fitness with environmental responsibility.
