Jahangirnagar University Research Society (JURS) successfully launched the first session of its flagship two-month-long “Training on Research Methodology” programme, focusing on introduction to research methodology, academic writing, and research paper structure.

The inaugural session was conducted by Dr Khandaker Hasan Mahmud, Professor of the Department of Geography and Environment at Jahangirnagar University. More than 170 participants attended the programme at the university’s Senate Hall.

During the session, participants received practical guidance on several aspects of academic research, including topic selection, title formulation and grammar, research objectives and aims, abstract writing, and the overall structure of research papers. An interactive question-and-answer session was also held, allowing students to engage directly with the speaker and clarify research-related queries.

The programme is being convened by Taimur Khan Turjo from the Department of Economics, while Samia Enam is serving as Co-Convener.

Beyond technical discussions, Dr Mahmud emphasized the importance of honesty, ethics, and intellectual growth in research practices. He encouraged students to pursue knowledge with integrity and develop strong academic values throughout their research journeys.

JURS Founding President Muhammad Al Amin Dewan Bijoy also highlighted the significance of research engagement for undergraduate students and explained how the long-term training course could contribute to their academic and professional development.

In the concluding remarks, current JURS President Md Abu Rumman thanked the guests and participants for attending the session and encouraged students to actively participate in future classes. He noted that successful completion of the programme would create opportunities for students to work on upcoming JURS research initiatives.

Organisers described JURS as a platform dedicated to knowledge sharing, youth empowerment, leadership development, and research-driven collaboration aimed at contributing positively to society.
