Professor Dr Md Khairul Islam has been appointed as the new vice-chancellor of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology.

The Secondary and Higher Education Division under the Ministry of Education issued a notification on Saturday confirming the appointment. The notification was signed by Assistant Secretary Md Shah Alam Siraj.

Dr Khairul Islam is currently serving as the head of the Department of Business Administration at the university. He previously served as the dean of the School of Management and Business Administration.

According to the notification, the appointment was made under Section 11(1) of the Shahjalal University of Science and Technology Act, 1987.

The notification stated that his tenure as vice-chancellor will be four years from the date of joining or until his retirement, whichever comes earlier.

It also mentioned that he will receive salary and allowances equivalent to his substantive post and enjoy other facilities in accordance with existing rules.

As the chief executive officer of the university, he will remain stationed full-time on the university campus.

The notification further stated that the President and Chancellor may cancel the appointment at any time if deemed necessary.
