National University has nearly doubled financial assistance for teachers conducting MPhil and PhD research, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr ASM Amanullah said on Sunday.

He also assured financial and other necessary support for teachers of National University and its affiliated colleges to produce quality publications and books.

Professor Amanullah made the remarks while inaugurating a research workshop at the university’s Senate Hall on 14 June 2026.

Highlighting different techniques for preparing quality research and research papers, he said Bangladesh remains at the lower end globally in terms of publications.

He discussed the importance of internationally accepted research methods, clear and error-free academic writing, publication in reputed journals, and improving the quality of research papers.

Professor Amanullah said National University needs to organise at least two research workshops every month to strengthen research capacity.

The day-long workshop, titled “Methodology, Writing, Publication and Quality Improvement”, was organised by the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell of National University.

Teachers of National University, as well as MPhil and PhD researchers, took part in the workshop.

National University Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Md Lutfar Rahman and Treasurer Professor Dr ATM Zafrul Azam spoke as special guests at the opening session.

The session was chaired by IQAC Acting Director Dr Mohammad Abdur Rahman.

Dhaka University Department of Sociology Professor Dr A I Mahbub Uddin Ahmed and Bangladesh Institute of Social Research Trust Chairman Dr M Khurshed Alam were the keynote speakers at the workshop.

National University Registrar Molla Mahfuz Al-Hossain, deans of different faculties and directors of different offices were present at the opening session.
