The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at State University of Bangladesh (SUB) organised a seminar yesterday (26 September) titled “Your Gateway to the World: Finding and Winning International Funding and Scholarship” to guide students on identifying and securing funding opportunities for higher education and research abroad.

Organised by the SUB Computing Club under the Department of CSE, the seminar provided students with practical guidance on international scholarships, funding opportunities and preparation for competitive applications, according to the press release.

Shah Mostafa Khaled, PhD, adjunct faculty and academic advisor of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at SUB, attended the seminar as the guest speaker.

The session focused on higher education and research abroad, with particular emphasis on scholarships, assistantships, fellowships and other funding options.

Khaled discussed strategies for building a strong academic profile and highlighted key components of international university applications, including statements of purpose (SOPs), recommendation letters, research and project experience, language proficiency tests such as IELTS and TOEFL, and the GRE where applicable.

The seminar also covered major international scholarship and funding programmes, including DAAD, Erasmus Mundus, Commonwealth and Fulbright.

Students were encouraged to identify opportunities aligned with their academic interests and career aspirations and to begin preparing well ahead of application deadlines.

The session also emphasised long-term academic planning, research experience, relevant projects and well-prepared applications when pursuing competitive international opportunities.

Students from the BSc programmes in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) and Data Science and Engineering (DSE), along with students from other academic programmes at SUB, attended the seminar.

The programme reflected growing student interest in international higher education and research opportunities. It also gave participants practical insights into global academic opportunities, funding sources, and the preparation required to pursue higher education abroad.

The SUB Computing Club regularly organises seminars, workshops and academic activities to broaden students’ exposure beyond the classroom and connect them with academic and career opportunities.

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering said it would continue supporting such initiatives as part of its efforts to strengthen students’ academic development and prepare them for opportunities in the international arena.
