Bangladesh’s Team Blueprint won bronze in the Future Engineers category at the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) Asia-Pacific Open Championship 2026, held in Hyderabad, India, from 25 to 27 September 2026.

Another Bangladeshi team, Team Odyssey X, finished seventh in the Future Innovators Senior category at the international competition, which brought together 149 teams from 25 countries, according to the press release.

Bangladesh participated with four teams across three categories. Team Blueprint competed in Future Engineers, while Team Odyssey X and Team Nebucoders took part in Future Innovators Senior. Team Robomania represented Bangladesh in RoboMission Senior.

The bronze-winning Team Blueprint comprised Syed Subeh-Sadiq Sholok, Md Azmain Sheikh and Samman Rahin. Team Odyssey X, which finished seventh in Future Innovators Senior, consisted of Abida Wadud and Sadman Al Haque.

Speaking about the achievement, Team Blueprint member Azmain Sheikh Rubayed said finishing third at an international competition was a rewarding experience for the team. Competing with skilled teams from different countries had allowed them to learn from others and assess their own abilities, he said.

“The experience has inspired us to work harder and perform better in future competitions,” he added.

The Bangladesh delegation included nine competitors and was led by Promi Nahid, national organiser of WRO Bangladesh. Nasir Khan Saikat served as the team coach, while a mentor and two other team officials also accompanied the delegation.

Promi said success in international robotics competitions required more than simply building a robot.

“Problem analysis, time management, quick decision-making and teamwork are equally important. Despite the challenges, the Bangladeshi teams demonstrated their skills and capabilities effectively. I believe this experience will play an important role in preparing them for future international competitions,” she said.

International Judge Redwan Ferdous said, “The journey was not an easy one for Bangladesh this year. Despite the challenges, the Bangladesh team competed strongly against teams from other countries, demonstrating their talent, skills and presence of mind. Securing third place is a recognition of their outstanding performance.”

Earlier, the national round of World Robot Olympiad Bangladesh 2026 was held simultaneously in Dhaka, Chattogram and Rangpur divisions on 14 August, 2026. More than 200 students from around 72 teams competed in four categories: Future Innovators, RoboMission, RoboSports, and Future Engineers.

Based on their performance in the national round, four teams were selected to represent Bangladesh in three categories at the international competition. The national round drew 34 teams from Dhaka, 26 from Chattogram and 12 from Rangpur.

The WRO Asia-Pacific Open Championship 2026 brought together 149 teams from 25 countries in Hyderabad to compete across categories. This year’s championship was held under the theme “Robot Meets Culture”.

The 13-member Bangladesh delegation, including the nine selected competitors, arrived in Hyderabad on 24 September 2026, ahead of the competition stages held from 25 to 27 September.

Ahead of the national round, WRO Bangladesh organised 14 activation programmes across five districts during June to encourage students to explore robotics and participate in the World Robot Olympiad. Around 2,000 students attended robotics workshops held at various public and private universities as part of these programmes.

Bangladesh Open Source Network and World Robot Olympiad Bangladesh jointly organised the activation programmes.

Brain Station 23 supported the programmes as the gold sponsor, while Creative IT Institute was the silver sponsor. UIU Robotics Club served as the club partner and Grey Matter Robotics as the knowledge partner.

Kishore Alo and Bigganchinta were the magazine partners, while The Business Standard (TBS) was the media partner.
