Innovation and skills must be combined to boost productivity: Naser Khan
Industries Secretary Abdun Naser Khan has stressed the need to combine innovation, knowledge and skills to ensure optimum use of the country’s limited resources and increase production at lower costs and within shorter timeframes.
He also emphasised creating new opportunities to boost productivity by harnessing the talent and creativity of the future generation.
He made the remarks while addressing the inaugural ceremony of an innovation fair for students at the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) College campus in Mirpur, Dhaka, marking National Productivity Day 2026, according to a press release.
Defining productivity, Naser Khan said it meant increasing production and achieving desired outcomes at lower costs and within less time through the optimum utilisation of available resources.
He noted that the primary objective of improving productivity was to ensure the best possible use of the country’s existing resources and capabilities.
Referring to the innovation fair, the industries secretary said the projects presented by students reflected the potential of a future Bangladesh.
The projects demonstrated how innovative thinking could help address various challenges facing the country, he added.
He further noted that initiatives involving artificial intelligence, waste reduction, electricity generation from waste and converting waste into fertiliser were directly linked to improving productivity.
“The efforts of our new generation to solve the country’s problems through innovative ideas are highly encouraging,” he said.
Calling on the present generation to create opportunities and a supportive environment for the next generation, Naser Khan said it was the responsibility of each generation to prepare the ground for those who would follow.
