State Minister for Youth and Sports Md Aminul Haque has said the government plans to build mini stadiums in every upazila as part of a nationwide initiative to promote sports and identify talent at the grassroots level.

A total of 4,599 playgrounds, including mini stadiums in every upazila, will be developed across the country, he said.

A modern playground will also be constructed in Dhamrai soon, according to a press release.

The state minister made the remarks while addressing the closing and prize-giving ceremony of the “Arafat Rahman Koko Memorial Football Tournament-2026” at the Valum Ataur Rahman Khan Degree College field in Dhamrai, Dhaka, yesterday (Oct 2).

The tournament was organised by Kalampur Jubo Samity.

Aminul said the government aims to bring qualitative change to the country through sports and stressed the importance of sports in building a humane Bangladesh regardless of political affiliation.

He also pledged to strengthen sports infrastructure at the grassroots level.

The state minister said he was determined to make all Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishthan (BKSP) centres self-sufficient and operate them under specific guidelines.

Dhaka North City Corporation Administrator Md Safiqul Islam Khan and MP Tamiz Uddin also spoke at the event, chaired by Dhaka Zila Parishad Administrator Yasin Ferdous Murad.
