Bangladesh Open University (BOU) held an orientation programme for the 13th batch of its LLB (Honours) programme, urging new students to develop legal knowledge, professional ethics and a strong sense of justice.

The School of Law organised the programme at the university’s main campus in Gazipur yesterday (2 October), with Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman Khan attending as the chief guest, according to the press release.

Addressing the students, Siddiqur said BOU had expanded access to education despite various challenges and established its presence beyond Bangladesh.

He encouraged students to overcome challenges and prepare themselves with the knowledge and ethical values needed for a career in law.

He also emphasised the importance of studying history, philosophy, artificial intelligence and technology alongside law to contribute to a humane and disciplined society.

School of Law Dean Professor Dr Nahid Ferdousi chaired the programme, while Registrar (in charge) TM Ahmed Hossain attended as a special guest.

Gazipur District and Sessions Judge Gazi Delwar Hossain delivered the keynote speech, discussing the history and importance of legal education, the need for contemporary curricula and the context of legal education in Bangladesh.

Teachers of the School of Law welcomed the students and offered guidance on professional ethics and skills.

Around 100 newly admitted students attended the programme, alongside university officials.
