DU team wins national climate action championship, to represent Bangladesh internationally
A team from the University of Dhaka (DU) has won the Idea Presentation Challenge at the National Championship on Climate Action 2026, held on 30 October at the United International University (UIU) campus in Dhaka.
The championship was jointly organised by GEIST International Foundation and Global Innovation & Leadership Center, bringing together undergraduate teams from universities across Bangladesh to present practical solutions to environmental challenges.
The winning team, Ecoptimise, comprises Nazifa Tahsin of the Department of Population Sciences (2024–25 session) and Muzammel Hasan Atif and Ishaat Alhumaidi of the Department of Arabic (2025–26 session).
Competing in the undergraduate category, the team secured the national title with Project Dharitri, a community-driven initiative that aims to convert municipal and household organic waste into agricultural-grade organic fertiliser. The project seeks to address organic waste management challenges while promoting sustainable agricultural practices through the reuse of biodegradable waste.
Projects were evaluated based on feasibility, environmental relevance and scalability, with recognition given to solutions offering practical approaches to ecological challenges.
Following their victory, Team Ecoptimise is scheduled to represent DU and Bangladesh at the international round of the championship in March 2027.
