BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) has won the first-place Best Poster Award at the 4th International Conference on Textile Science and Engineering (ICTSE 2026) for its research on sustainable textile processing.

The conference, organised by the Faculty of Textile Management and Business Studies at the Bangladesh University of Textiles (BUTEX), was held on 20 June at the BUTEX campus. The event brought together academics, researchers and industry professionals from Bangladesh and abroad to exchange knowledge and discuss the latest developments in textile engineering.

BUFT’s award-winning research poster, titled “Eco-Friendly Dyeing and Functional Finishing of Cotton Fabric with Clitoria ternatea Extract: Role of Terminalia chebula and Chitosan in Enhancing Antimicrobial and UV Protective Properties”, was recognised for its practical approach to environmentally friendly finishing technologies and natural dyeing methods.

The research was carried out by a team from BUFT’s Department of Apparel Manufacturing and Technology (AMT), comprising Assistant Professor Ummelewara Bristi, Lecturer Zumana Tasnin, and undergraduate students Rafsun Nazif Fahad, Md. Mozahidul Islam Tasnim, and Md. Soaib Rahman.

Dr A.N.M. Ehsanul Hoque Milon, MP, Minister for Education, attended the inaugural session as the chief guest, while Professor Dr Mamun Ahmed, Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh, was present as the special guest. Michiel Kokken, Head of Scientific and Regulatory Affairs at OFI, Netherlands, delivered an international keynote address.

Prof. Dr Engr. Md. Zulhash Uddin, Vice-Chancellor of BUTEX, presented the award to the winning team during the closing ceremony.

Conference organisers, including Organising Chair Prof. Dr Md. Ahashan Habib and Conference Secretary Prof. Dr Md. Nurun Nabi, praised the BUFT team for the scientific quality and industry relevance of their work.

University officials stated that the achievement reflects BUFT’s continued commitment to industry-focused research and sustainability initiatives within Bangladesh’s apparel sector.
