Eastern University welcomes Summer 2026 freshers with orientation programme
Eastern University (EU) organised its Freshers’ Orientation for the Summer Semester 2026 today (18 July) at its permanent campus in Ashulia, welcoming newly admitted students to the university.
The programme was presided over by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Farid A Sobhani.
Professor Dr Borhan Uddin Khan, Professor of the Department of Law at the University of Dhaka, attended the event as the chief guest, while Professor Dr Md Hassan Kawsar, Member of the Pharmacy Council of Bangladesh, was present as the special guest.
Addressing the students, Professor Dr Borhan Uddin Khan encouraged them to uphold justice, honesty, human values and respect for the rule of law. He also emphasised the importance of developing critical thinking, logical reasoning and social responsibility alongside academic excellence.
Professor Dr Md Hassan Kawsar urged students to focus on research, innovation and professional development, describing university life as the most important stage for personal and professional growth.
Distinguished alumnus Md Abdullah-Al-Masum, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Gazipur, attended the programme as a guest speaker and encouraged the freshers to make the best use of their university life by developing knowledge, skills and leadership qualities.
In his presidential address, Professor Dr Farid A Sobhani advised students to uphold moral values, discipline and humanity, and to become responsible citizens committed to the welfare of the country and society.
During the programme, Associate Professor Abdur Rob, Proctor of the university, administered the oath to the newly admitted students and encouraged them to participate actively in academic, research and co-curricular activities.
The programme also featured speeches by Treasurer Professor Md Shamsul Huda, Registrar Dr Abul Basher Khan, who delivered the welcome address, Dean of the School of Law ABM Imdadul Haque Khan, and Adviser to the School of Life Sciences Professor Dr Firoz Ahmed. The concluding remarks were delivered by Mohammad Mamunur Rashid, Head of the Department of Law and Convener of the Freshers’ Orientation Programme.
The event was attended by deans, heads of departments, faculty members, administrative officials, staff, guardians and newly admitted students.
During the orientation, students were introduced to the university’s academic system, student support services, clubs, co-curricular activities and campus facilities. The programme concluded with a cultural performance by students.
