The 39th National Snooker Championship 2026 has officially commenced, bringing together the nation’s top cue sports players for one of Bangladesh’s most prestigious snooker tournaments. Organised by the Bangladesh Billiards and Snooker Federation, the event is hosted by the Dhaka Boat Club.

Details of the tournament were shared earlier today during a press conference held at the Dhaka Boat Club.

Rubel Aziz, President of the Dhaka Boat Club, attended the event as the chief guest, while Brig Gen (Retd) Sharkar Md Samsuddin, President of the Bangladesh Billiards and Snooker Federation, was present as a special guest. The press conference was chaired by Dr Md Zahirul Islam, with other key figures in attendance, including Nakib Sarkar Apu, Member Admin, Syed Abu Solaiman, Member Finance, and Monir Hossain Emon, Sports In-charge, as well as other Executive Committee members.

During the press conference, organisers announced that this year’s championship features 183 players from 32 clubs across the country. The tournament offers an enticing prize fund, with the champion receiving Tk 100,000 and the runner-up earning Tk 50,000. Each semi-finalist will receive Tk 20,000, while players who register the highest break of 50 or more will be awarded a special prize of Tk 20,000.

The event is sponsored by Amber Group, with co-sponsorship from Eminence Sourcing and Rashid Group. RC Cola and MUM serve as the beverage partners, while IMPACT PR is the media partner for the tournament.

Rubel Aziz, President of the Dhaka Boat Club, commented, “Organising such tournaments regularly will help to further popularise cue sports in Bangladesh and provide talented players with a proper platform to showcase their abilities. However, the current VAT of around USD 3.5 per kilogram on importing snooker tables poses a significant challenge to the sport’s growth. Reducing this tax would help Bangladesh establish itself on the global snooker stage.”

Sharkar Md Samsuddin, President of the Bangladesh Billiards and Snooker Federation, added, “The main goal of the tournament is to nurture talented players who can represent Bangladesh internationally. We hope that events like this will help to develop more skilled and internationally competitive players.”

Dr Md Zahirul Islam, Chairman of the Tournament Committee, stated, “The strong participation this year reflects the growing popularity of snooker in Bangladesh. Such initiatives are essential in creating a sustainable platform for emerging talent.”

The clubs participating in the tournament include Dhaka Boat Club Limited, Banani Club Limited, Dhaka Club Limited, Gulshan Club Limited, Officers Club Dhaka, Uttara Club Limited, Chattogram Club, Khulna Club Limited, Bangladesh Club Limited, Narayanganj Club Limited, Club Shaheen Limited, Legend Club Limited, Cumilla Club Limited, Arena by QSports Academy, California Pool and Snooker, Le Royal Sports Limited, R&B Billiard Center, Sport X Billiards, Q&U Billiard, Break N Ball, Q Billiards, Jimmy’s Bowling and Billiard, Silnet IT and Billiard Zone, Club Notredamians Bangladesh Limited, NASS Billiard Academy, Breakers Pool and Snooker, Cumilla City Club, Q Sports Hub, Corporate Executive Club Limited, Bangladesh Billiard Center, Bangladesh QSports Academy, and Catholic Club Chattogram.
