The School of Law at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) organised the “3rd IUB Undergraduate Law Students’ Research Conference” on 7–8 May 2026, bringing together students from 20 universities across Bangladesh.

The conference focused on contemporary legal issues through research paper presentations and expert panel evaluations. A total of 56 papers were submitted by students from 8 public and 12 private universities, of which 40 papers were selected for presentation across 10 thematic sessions.

The presented papers covered a wide range of topics, including structural discrimination, cyber law, artificial intelligence, environmental crises, constitutional reform, stray animal protection, and digital rights.

Prof Dr Borhan Uddin Khan, Advisor to the School of Law, attended the inaugural session as chief guest. Prof Dr Muhammad Mahbubur Rahman, Head of the Department of Law, delivered the welcome address, while Dean of the School of Law Prof Dr Mohammad Nazmuzzaman Bhuian also spoke at the session.

The conference featured an expert panel of judges including Prof Dr Rumana Islam and Dr Taslima Yasmin from the University of Dhaka; Prof Dr Md Rizwanul Islam from North South University; Dr Robayet Ferdous Syed from American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB); Dr Nabaat Tasnima Mahbub from East West University; and Dr Afroza Bilkis from the Bangladesh Competition Commission.

IUB faculty members Prof Dr Md Abdul Awal Khan, Prof Dr Assaduzzaman, Dr Md Anisur Rahman, Dr Hassan Al Imran, Dr Liton Chandra Biswas, Dr Md Monjur Hasan, and Dr Md Toriqul Islam also represented the university in the academic sessions.

The panelists evaluated the papers based on analytical depth, structure, presentation quality, use of visual aids, time management, and responses during question-and-answer sessions. All participants received certificates, while 10 students were recognised for outstanding research work.

The awardees included Md Ashifuzzaman Anik and Naima Sultana Anika from the University of Dhaka; Md Ibrahim Khalilullah from State University of Bangladesh; Nurshalin Islam Shifat from Bangladesh University of Business and Technology; Tanvir Ahmed Tusher from Noakhali Science and Technology University; Razwan Ahmed from University of Asia Pacific; Sushmita Protimo Ghosh Puja and Afrida Anwar from IUB; Sanjida Armin Meem from Gopalganj Science and Technology University; Md Shuvo Zaman Shanto from Eastern University; and others.

IUB Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Daniel W Lund attended the closing ceremony. The conference concluded with remarks from Conference Convenor Prof Dr Jahid Hossain Bhuiyan, who thanked participants and emphasised the importance of nurturing research culture among law students.
