A team of students from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at Islamic University of Technology won gold medals at both the Innovation World Cup (IWC) 2026 and the International Innovation & Invention Competition (I3C) 2026.

The team, named Reality Check, comprised Maliha Mehnaj, Noshin Syara, and Tasnia Rahman Maha. Representing Bangladesh through Dreams of Bangladesh, the team competed against 458 teams from 16 countries.

Their project, titled Multi-Modal Deepfake Detection AI, was developed to address the growing challenge of AI-generated misinformation and manipulated digital content. The system analyses multiple forms of media to identify deepfake videos and AI-generated content, helping users distinguish authentic material from fabricated information.

The international finals were held at Universitas Negeri Jakarta from 3 to 6 June 2026 through a collaboration between the Malaysian Innovation Invention Creativity Association and the Indonesian Young Scientist Association. Young innovators, researchers, and inventors from around the world participated in the event.

Team Reality Check received gold medals in both competitions during the award ceremony held on 6 June.

According to the team, a key feature of the project is its integration of human expert review alongside AI-based analysis. This human-in-the-loop approach was designed to improve the accuracy and reliability of deepfake detection, particularly in cases where automated systems may face limitations.

The achievement highlighted both the technical merit of the project and the growing presence of Bangladeshi students in international research and innovation competitions.

The team expressed gratitude to Dreams of Bangladesh, IUT, faculty members, mentors, and supporters who contributed to the project’s development and international participation.

The success further demonstrated the potential of young Bangladeshi innovators to develop technology-driven solutions to global challenges, particularly in the fields of artificial intelligence, digital security, and misinformation detection.
