The State University of Bangladesh Moot Court Society and the Bangladesh Centre for Refugee Law Studies jointly organised a day-long refugee law bootcamp, bringing together 70 students from 50 universities nationwide.

The programme, “Refugee Law and Protection in Practice”, was held at the university on 2 November, 2026, according to the press release.

Asif Nazrul, a professor in the University of Dhaka’s Department of Law, inaugurated the event. He underscored the value of such programmes in raising law students’ awareness of refugee issues and the importance of refugee protection.

The bootcamp featured three academic sessions and an interactive session. In the opening session, Abu Bakkar Siddiq, assistant professor at Bangladesh University of Professionals, focused on how refugee protection works in practice beyond legal frameworks.

Md Jahedul Islam, lecturer at American International University-Bangladesh, led the second session, an “Expression Session”. It encouraged participants to share their views, listen to different perspectives and speak with confidence.

In the third session, “Connecting Refugee Law, Research and Humanitarian Action”, Sakhawat Sajjat Sejan, executive director of the Bangladesh Centre for Refugee Law Studies, explained how legal knowledge, academic research and humanitarian action work together to strengthen refugee protection.

The final session combined feedback on protection mapping, creative activities and an award ceremony. Participants reflected on their learning and joined competitions and interactive activities designed to build motivation and confidence.
