The ULAB Nutrition and Wellness Club successfully organised the Obesity Awareness & Management Programme, powered by Medix Signature Clinic, a brand of United Healthcare, on 11 April 2026, bringing together healthcare experts, students and faculty members to promote awareness of preventive healthcare and sustainable wellness practices.

The programme aimed to address obesity as a growing public health concern while encouraging informed lifestyle choices and long-term health management among young adults. The event was hosted by Most Nure Jannat Amin and AHM Munaimul Azam, whose moderation helped create an interactive and informative environment throughout the session.

The event began with an inaugural speech by Dr Hossain Imam, associate professor and clinical director of Medix Signature Clinic, who emphasised the importance of early intervention, medical awareness, and responsible lifestyle choices in preventing and managing obesity. He highlighted how collective awareness and proper healthcare guidance can significantly improve overall wellbeing among students and young professionals.

Following the opening remarks, Prof Dr Indrajit Prasad, senior consultant in diabetes and endocrinology, delivered a session explaining the relationship between hormones, diabetes and obesity. He discussed how metabolic and hormonal balance plays a vital role in weight regulation and long-term health outcomes.

Continuing the academic discussions, Prof Dr Md Sazzad Khondoker presented an overview of obesity and its medical impact, elaborating on associated health risks and preventive strategies necessary for maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

The programme also featured a session by Nusrat Jahan Deepa, clinical dietitian and diet consultant, who spoke on nutrition, lifestyle, and sustainable weight management. She encouraged participants to adopt balanced dietary habits, mindful eating practices, and sustainable lifestyle adjustments rather than temporary solutions for weight loss.

During the programme, tokens of appreciation were presented to the speakers by Naima Khatun, adviser to the ULAB Nutrition and Wellness Club and lecturer in the BBA Department, in recognition of their contributions to health education and student wellbeing.

The event also included an interactive quiz segment that engaged participants and promoted practical health knowledge through audience participation and gift distribution.

In addition, Dr Hossain Imam introduced the Student Health Card initiative from Medix Signature Clinic, highlighting accessible healthcare opportunities designed specifically for students.

The programme ended with a vote of thanks delivered by Naima Khatun, who expressed gratitude to the speakers, organising team, partners, volunteers and participants for contributing to the success of the initiative.

Through the programme, the ULAB Nutrition and Wellness Club reaffirmed its commitment to promoting preventive healthcare, health awareness and holistic student wellbeing. The collaboration with Medix Signature Clinic under United Healthcare reflected a shared vision of fostering a healthier, more informed and wellness-focused student community.
