Uttara University organised “Smaraney July ’24” at its Multipurpose Hall on 3 August to commemorate the sacrifices of the July 2024 Movement, honour its martyrs and injured heroes, and reaffirm the university’s commitment to preserving the movement’s history and values.

The programme began with a recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by an inaugural address by Dr Shah Ahmed, Director of the Office of Student Affairs. State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj joined the event as the chief guest through a recorded video message.

In his message, Bobby Hajjaj praised the role of Uttara University students in the July Movement and encouraged them to continue working for democratic governance, a progressive Bangladesh and a people-centred nation.

A major highlight of the programme was the unveiling of the commemorative souvenir book, “Lekha Achhey Oshrujoley”, followed by the presentation of commemorative crests and copies of the publication to selected recipients.

Addressing the gathering, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Eaysmin Ara Lekha said educated people have a responsibility to uphold truth and stand against injustice while fulfilling their duties towards the country with sincerity.

The programme also featured a presentation by Professor Dr A S M Shahabuddin, Director of the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), on the methodology used to prepare the commemorative list. Micro-documentaries highlighting the experiences of Uttara University students during the July 2024 Movement were screened, followed by live reflections from several students.

The event concluded with a special prayer led by Professor Dr Mirza Golam Rabbani, Dean of the School of Science and Engineering, seeking eternal peace for the souls of the July martyrs.

Treasurer, Registrar, Controller of Examinations, deans, faculty members, administrative officials and staff of the university also attended the programme.
