Michael C. Hall is back as Dexter Morgan, and this time the serial killer has two new killers to worry about.

Paramount+ has released the official trailer for Season 2 of Dexter: Resurrection, ahead of its 30 October premiere on the streaming platform’s Premium plan. The trailer, released on 1 October, teases an older Dexter caught between two very different murderers while confronting an altogether different problem: a mid-life crisis.

The new season finds Dexter facing the New York Ripper, a notorious serial killer played by Brian Cox, and the Five Borough Killer, a younger murderer portrayed by Dan Stevens. The New York Ripper is a former subway worker who has stepped away from killing but continues to torment survivors of his earlier crimes, while the Five Borough Killer is a new presence terrorising New York.

The trailer also suggests that Dexter may be dealing with something more personal than his usual cat-and-mouse games. Paramount+ describes him as being caught between the two killers while battling an unexpected enemy — his own mid-life crisis. At one point, Dexter appears to reflect on his identity and his growing place in the world of killers he has spent years navigating.

Meanwhile, Dexter’s son Harrison, played by Jack Alcott, continues his own pursuit of justice. Season 2 will further explore the complicated relationship between father and son as both attempt to navigate their darker instincts.

The returning cast includes Uma Thurman, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Kadia Saraf, Dominic Fumusa, Desmond Harrington and James Remar. New additions include Cox, Stevens, Bokeem Woodbine and Nona Parker Johnson, while Krysten Ritter returns as a guest star and Gabriel Luna joins as another guest star.

The new season arrives as the Dexter franchise marks two decades since the original series introduced audiences to Dexter Morgan and his particular approach to vigilante justice. Dexter: Resurrection itself picks up weeks after Dexter survives being shot by Harrison, with the father travelling to New York in an attempt to repair their fractured relationship.

Season 2 of Dexter: Resurrection premieres on 30 October exclusively on Paramount+ Premium.
