Applications have been invited from interested candidates in the prescribed form for admission to the PhD programme at the University of Dhaka for the 2026-2027 academic session (July-December term).

Key Information & Application Procedure

• Application Form: Downloadable from the official Dhaka University website (https://du.ac.bd).
• Submission Place: The office of the Chairman of the respective Department or the Director of the concerned Institute.
• Application Fee: BDT 1,000. The original deposit slip from Janata Bank (TSC Branch) must be attached.
• Required Documents:
  • Duly filled application form.
  • Original bank deposit slip.
  • Photocopies of academic transcripts and certificates of all examinations.
  • One recent passport-size photograph attested by the respective supervisor, department chairman, or institute director.
  • A comprehensive research outline (Synopsis).
• Equivalence for Foreign Degrees: Candidates holding degrees from foreign universities must obtain an equivalence certificate before applying.
• Warning: Concealment of facts or provision of misinformation will lead to the immediate cancellation of admission.

Eligibility Criteria

1. Academic Qualifications

Candidates must meet one of the following academic pathways from a public university or recognized institution:

• An M.Phil. degree.
• A 4-year Bachelor (Honours) degree combined with a 1-year Master’s degree.
• A 3-year Bachelor (Honours) degree combined with a 1-year Master’s degree.

2. Minimum Marks & CGPA Requirements

• Traditional Grading: At least Second Division/Class with a minimum of 50% marks in all public examinations.
• Grading System (From Secondary to Postgraduate): A minimum CGPA of 3.5 out of 5.0 or 3.0 out of 4.0 across all examinations.

3. Publication Requirements

• A minimum of 2 research articles published in recognized, peer-reviewed journals.
• For applicants under the Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Social Sciences, and Faculty of Business Studies, at least 1 publication must be single-authored.

4. Professional Experience (Only for 3-year Bachelor + 1-year Master’s holders)

Candidates with a 3-year Bachelor (Honours) degree must possess at least 2 years of active experience in one of the following areas:

• Teaching at the undergraduate level in a recognized educational institution.
• Research-related work at a recognized research organization.
• Professional service in a government, private, autonomous, or semi-autonomous organization.
