Fifa announced that it will stage separate opening ceremonies across Mexico, Canada and the United States for the expanded tournament, which begins on 11 June in Mexico City.

Sanjoy is scheduled to perform on 12 June in Toronto ahead of Canada’s group-stage match against Bosnia and Herzegovina. In a social media post, Sanjoy said he is honoured to be part of the ceremony, describing it as a milestone from producing music in his bedroom to performing on a global stage.

The performance will be part of Canada’s opening celebrations, marking the start of its World Cup fixtures.

Fifa said further details of opening ceremony performances across host cities will be announced in the coming weeks.
