State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj today (5 May) said the government is working relentlessly to build a safe, modern, technology-based and enjoyable education system for every child in the country.

The government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, is committed to building a time-befitting and inclusive smart primary education system, he said.

He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a review meeting on new development projects under the Directorate of Primary Education held at the conference room of the Directorate this morning.

Emphasising the need to build an integrated digital education ecosystem, he said, “The future education system will be technology-based. Learning Management System (LMS), smart assessment and school management will all be brought under a single digital platform.”

Regarding the improvement of education quality and training, Bobby Hajjaj said special importance is currently being given to improving foundational literacy and numeracy. Bangladesh is working with renewed efforts to enhance reading comprehension, listening and speaking skills in language education, he added.

He directed the officials concerned to strictly maintain transparency, accountability and timelines in implementing the projects.

The meeting was informed that initiatives have been taken to adopt 13 new development projects for the overall development and modernisation of primary education, which have already been included in the government’s “green page”.

The projects include the government primary school development project, infrastructure development of model schools in 11 city corporations, renovation of dilapidated schools, development of playgrounds, furnishing of pre-primary classrooms, second phase of the mid-day meal programme, NextGen Primary Education Programme and solar electrification project in government primary schools without electricity in hill districts.

Besides, infrastructure development of PTIs across the country and development of model government primary schools at union level are also included in the list.

The state minister later discussed in detail the “Primary Education Development Programme” (PEDP-5).

Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, Md Mokhlesur Rahman, and Director General of the Directorate of Primary Education, Shahina Ferdousi, among others, were present.

Senior officials of the directorate also shared their views on implementation strategies and monitoring mechanisms of the projects at the meeting.
