State University of Bangladesh (SUB) has honoured 17 faculty members and researchers for publishing research in internationally recognised Q1 and Q2 journals.

The “SUB Excellence Awards 2025” and research grants were presented under the Best Research and Publication 2025 category at a ceremony on the university campus on 24 August, according to a press release.

SUB faculty members and researchers published 91 articles in Q1 and Q2 journals in 2025, up from 75 in 2024. The figure represents year-on-year growth of around 21.3%.

Registrar of SUB Dr Ahmed Hossain delivered the welcome address and highlighted the university’s emphasis on improving research quality alongside its academic activities.

“Academic excellence at a university is not limited to classroom teaching. High-quality research and international publications are also important indicators,” he said.

“This achievement by our faculty members and researchers is a matter of pride and will further enrich the university’s research environment,” he added.

Professor Dr Md Abdur Rashid, emeritus professor at the University of Dhaka and professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, attended the event as chief guest.

He said researchers should focus not only on the number of publications but also on their quality.

“By publishing in Q1 and Q2 journals, the faculty members of State University of Bangladesh are establishing their position in the international research community,” he said.

Rashid expressed hope that the university would continue contributing nationally and internationally through fundamental and applied research.

Acting Vice-Chancellor of SUB Professor Dr Md Hasan Kawsar delivered the closing remarks and congratulated the award recipients.

“We have been working consistently to strengthen the research culture at State University of Bangladesh,” he said.

“The increase in publications by our faculty members and researchers in internationally recognised journals is a significant achievement,” he added.

Kawsar said the awards represented institutional recognition intended to encourage researchers to undertake higher-quality work.

He also stressed that research should contribute to addressing real-world challenges in education, healthcare, technology, business and society.

Deans and chairpersons of different schools and departments, faculty members, researchers and senior university officials attended the ceremony.

SUB said it would continue supporting quality research and international publication as part of its efforts to strengthen its position as a research-oriented higher education institution.
