Jahangirnagar University officially inaugurated the 8th edition of the Jahangirnagar Model United Nations Conference (JMUN’26) today, organised by the Jahangirnagar Model United Nations Association (JUMUNA).

Held primarily at the university’s Savar campus in Dhaka, the conference continues JUMUNA’s decade-long effort to promote diplomacy, leadership, and global awareness among young people since the organisation’s establishment in 2015.

Building on the success of previous editions, including JMUN’23 which hosted more than 307 delegates, JMUN’26 has brought together students from diverse national and international backgrounds to participate in simulated United Nations committees.

Throughout the conference, delegates will engage in research, debate, negotiation, and policy discussions on contemporary global issues, while developing skills in diplomacy, critical thinking, public speaking, and international problem-solving.

Organisers said the conference aims to provide a collaborative platform where young participants can exchange ideas, strengthen leadership abilities, and gain deeper understanding of global governance and multilateral cooperation.

The opening plenary session brought together distinguished guests, faculty members, and enthusiastic delegates eager to address contemporary global challenges through cooperation and dialogue. As the chief guest, Vice Chancellor of Jahangirnagar University Dr. Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan officially opened JMUN 2026. He emphasized the university’s pivotal role in nurturing ethical, globally minded leaders.

“Diplomacy is the art of building understanding rather than winning arguments,” Dr. Ahsan stated, commending the organizers and encouraging delegates to embrace collaborative problem-solving to tackle the complex challenges of the twenty-first century
