Supplementary examinations for students who failed one or two subjects in the 2026 Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations are scheduled to begin on 2 December.

The education boards plan to complete the entire process, including holding the exams, evaluating answer scripts and publishing results, by 31 December, Prof Syed Akhtaruzzaman, chairman of the Dhaka Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board and president of the Bangladesh Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee, confirmed today (2 November).

He said all education boards will have to complete the process within December, leaving no scope to further shorten the examination schedule.

The results for all 11 education boards were published simultaneously on 31 October.

The pass rate in this year’s HSC and equivalent examinations fell to its lowest level in 22 years, with only 52.12% of students passing across the 11 education boards.

A total of 646,685 students passed the examinations, while 40,084 secured the highest Grade Point Average (GPA) of 5.

The last time the pass rate was lower was in 2004, when 47.74% of students passed the HSC and equivalent examinations. That year, 3,036 students achieved GPA-5. At the time, examinations were held under seven general education boards.

In 2025, the pass rate was 58.83%. This year’s rate represents a further decline of 6.71 percentage points from last year.

This year’s HSC and equivalent examinations began on 2 July, with the written examinations ending on 8 August.

However, examinations under the Chattogram Education Board were postponed due to flooding. The postponed examinations were subsequently held and concluded on 9 September.
