North South University hosts spring orientation 2026
North South University (NSU) held its Spring Orientation 2026 at the NSU Plaza Area on 16 January 2026, welcoming newly admitted students to the university.
Dr Khalilur Rahman, National Security Adviser and High Representative for the Rohingya Issue at the Chief Adviser’s Office, attended as chief guest. Aziz Al Kaiser, chairman of the Board of Trustees of NSU, was present as special guest.
Founder member and former chairman of the Board of Trustees, MA Kashem, and founder life member and former chairman, Benajir Ahmed, attended as guests of honour. Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, vice-chancellor of NSU, chaired the session, alongside Dr Nasar Uddin Ahmed, the university’s pro vice-chancellor.
The programme began with a recitation from the Holy Quran and the national anthem, followed by a screening of an NSU documentary. Registrar Dr Ahmed Tazmeen delivered the welcome address.
Deans from all academic schools attended, including Professor Md Rizwanul Islam (School of Humanities and Social Sciences), Professor Shazzad Hosain (School of Engineering and Physical Sciences), Professor Dipak Kumar Mitra (School of Health and Life Sciences), and Professor AKM Waresul Karim (School of Business and Economics).
A total of 68 students received scholarships, including 23 who were awarded 100 per cent merit scholarships, recognising their outstanding performance in the bachelor’s (honours) admission test.
Addressing the new students, Dr Khalilur Rahman said learning from books alone was insufficient, encouraging them to question ideas and engage in creative learning.
“The future is in your hands. Be courageous and do not take no for an answer. Our forebears never gave up, and neither should you,” he said.
Aziz Al Kaiser said NSU regarded students’ trust as a profound responsibility.
“At NSU, we do not view our students merely as learners, but as individuals who will become responsible, ethical, and respectful members of society,” he said.
Benajir Ahmed said NSU was not just an institution awarding degrees, but a place where dreams are built. MA Kashem urged students to develop determination and ambition to become leaders of tomorrow.
Vice-chancellor Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury emphasised civic responsibility, noting that national development depends on the transformation and contributions of young people.
In his vote of thanks, pro vice-chancellor Dr Nasar Uddin Ahmed reminded students of their responsibility to give back to their families, communities, and the country.
The programme concluded with a cultural performance by members of the North South University Shangskritik Sangathan (NSUSS).
