After a disastrous stint at Chelsea, who thought a lad returning from Roma to the Premier League with something to prove would turn out to be one of the Premier League greats?

If you ask your fellow friend who is a Liverpool fan, they will tell you he leaves as the best Premier League player ever. 257 goals and 120 assists in 442 appearances for the Reds, and he won 7 major trophies. If Ballon d’Or actually made sense, this man should have had one in his hand.

The numbers don’t lie, but the actual performance, the position this man held on the pitch is impeccable and unmatched. When he first came, he was termed as the one-season wonder. After 9 years at Liverpool, he leaves as an all-time great and even in his worst season, he scored 22 G/A in 41 games. A number still dreamt of by many to hold. Doubters have turned into believers, dreams have turned into reality for Liverpool, and this man etched his name in the heart of every Liverpool fan and beyond.

In the era of Cristiano, Messi, and countless European stars, people often overlook greatness coming from other parts of the world, but Mo made sure people looked and sunk in his excellence.

From the “Never Give Up” shirt in the infamous Barcelona game to dragging three, four defenders to their last breath for scoring the final goal, Mo Salah will always remain in every Liverpudlian’s memories.

Everybody thought he scored more goals because Firmino, playing as a false 9, fed him goals. Then, they thought it was Mané and Díaz who lessened their chances to get him more goals. Years have gone by, players have changed, yet Mo Salah has made sure to keep those numbers at the top of the charts despite having anybody by his side to lead the Reds to glory.

He has been a classic footballer. He never talked with journalists, but when he did, he made sure to make the news. He spoke up for his contract renewal, he spoke up for Liverpool’s deteriorating form, he knew what he was capable of, and that for Liverpool, only the sky is the limit.

For Liverpool fans, football was easy when the ball was at Salah’s feet and he was running down the right flank. You never knew when a goal would come. In the coming years, there will be players running down the right wing, but there will be no songs coming from the Kop that say, “Mo Salah, Mo Salah, Running Down the Wing, Salah Salah Salah, Mo Salah, the Egyptian King.”

Salah was a magical player to witness for those who got to see him. When the club brought a proper number 9 in Darwin Núñez, he changed his playing style to being a playmaker, and even in his final match, he left the club breaking a record which made him the highest assist-maker in the history of Liverpool Football Club.

Those unforgettable runs, goals, and assists would stand everlasting for Liverpudlians. Mo Salah will be a name for the history books. You could doubt him, but you could never question his capabilities. Still with years left to give, he leaves. He leaves behind a legacy few could ever dream of. As the king leaves his kingdom, as Mohamed Salah leaves Liverpool F.C., as the floodlights of Anfield go dim, we, Liverpudlians, scream. We say, “Salah, you will never walk alone.”
