North South University hosted its Summer Orientation 2026 programme today at the NSU Plaza Area, welcoming newly admitted students and marking the beginning of their academic journey.

The event was attended by Mr Mahdi Amin, Hon’ble Adviser to the Prime Minister on the Ministry of Education, Primary and Mass Education, Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, and Labour and Employment, as Chief Guest. He was joined by Mr Aziz Al Kaiser, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, NSU, as Special Guest, along with other members of the Board of Trustees, including Mr M A Kashem, Mrs Yasmin Kamal, Mrs Rehana Rahman, and Mr Benajir Ahmed, who attended as Guests of Honour.

The programme was chaired by NSU Vice-Chancellor Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, alongside Pro Vice-Chancellor Dr Nasar Uddin Ahmed. It opened with the recitation of the Holy Quran and the National Anthem, followed by a screening of an NSU documentary and a welcome address by Registrar Dr Ahmed Tazmeen.

Deans from all four schools of NSU were also present, representing the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, the School of Engineering and Physical Sciences, the School of Health and Life Sciences, and the School of Business and Economics.

A total of 98 students received scholarships at various levels, including 18 full merit scholarships, recognising outstanding performance in the undergraduate admission test.

In his address, Mr Mahdi Amin emphasised the need for an education system that combines academic knowledge with practical skills, industry exposure, and character development, adding that universities must prepare students to become responsible and employable citizens.

Chairman of the Board of Trustees Mr Aziz Al Kaiser highlighted NSU’s commitment to nurturing students as future ethical and responsible citizens, while Mr M A Kashem spoke about ongoing international collaborations and proposed future initiatives, including the establishment of an international medical research institute and a nursing training centre.

Former Chairman Mr Benajir Ahmed encouraged students to use university life for self-discovery and personal growth, beyond academic achievement.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury urged students to be creative, independent thinkers from the beginning of their academic journey, emphasising NSU’s role in shaping future leaders rather than only awarding degrees.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks from Pro Vice-Chancellor Dr Nasar Uddin Ahmed and a cultural performance by the North South University Shangskritik Shangathan (NSUSS).
