Batman's Batpod expected to fetch up to £900,000 at auction
A motorcycle featured in Christopher Nolan’s 2008 film The Dark Knight is expected to sell for up to £900,000 at an upcoming auction in London.
The Batpod, used in a chase scene featuring Christian Bale’s Batman and Heath Ledger’s Joker, is among several film memorabilia items being offered by Hertfordshire-based auction house Propstore from December 4 to 6.
The vehicle, which also appeared in the 2012 sequel The Dark Knight Rises, has an estimated value of between £450,000 and £900,000.
The auction will take place online and at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (Bafta) venue in London.
Other items from the Batman trilogy include Bale’s complete Batsuit from Batman Begins, the first film in the series, which is expected to fetch between £125,000 and £250,000.
The auction will also feature memorabilia from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, including the protagonist’s fedora, shirt and bullwhip.
The items belonged to stuntman Vic Armstrong, who doubled for Harrison Ford in the first three Indiana Jones films, which were shot at Elstree Studios in Hertfordshire.
Other film and television memorabilia from Game of Thrones, Superman III and Conan the Barbarian will also go under the hammer.
Propstore founder and CEO Stephen Lane described the Batpod as an “extraordinary feat of filmmaking and engineering”.
He said bringing together Indiana Jones’ fedora, shirt and bullwhip in the same catalogue was particularly exciting, adding that the items from Armstrong’s personal collection offered a glimpse into the stunt work behind the films.
