The British High Commission in Dhaka hosted a send-off reception to honour the Bangladeshi athletes who will represent the country at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, Scotland, later this month.

Hosted by British High Commissioner Sarah Cooke, the reception recognised the athletes’ dedication, hard work and achievements while wishing them success ahead of the Games.

Bangladesh will compete in four disciplines at the Commonwealth Games: athletics, boxing, artistic gymnastics and swimming.

The United Kingdom is hosting the Commonwealth Games for the third time since 2014, with Glasgow serving as the host city for the 2026 edition. The event reflects the UK’s continued commitment to the Commonwealth and the role of sport in fostering unity, inclusion and international cooperation.

The reception also highlighted the longstanding partnership between the United Kingdom and Bangladesh while celebrating the shared values of the modern Commonwealth.

Among those attending were senior government representatives, officials from the Bangladesh Olympic Association, heads of mission from various high commissions in Dhaka, and representatives from the sports and media communities.

Addressing the gathering, British High Commissioner Sarah Cooke said: “The Commonwealth Games are something truly special. They bring together a diverse family of nations, connected by shared values of fairness, respect and opportunity.

“As this fantastic group of athletes from Bangladesh departs for Glasgow in a few days, I wish them the very best.”
